I finished "A Deadly Yarn" by Maggie Sefton, #3 in the
Knitting Mystery series.

The mystery itself was a straight forward one without a
lot of red herrings or much complexity. The reader was
taken along for the detecting by the main character and
without many surprises, just a lot of talking and shoe
leather expended.

I like the characters and setting enough to order the
next two in the series (used, of course). Even if the
mysteries continue to be fairly simple ones, I'll
enjoy following the evolution of the characters.

They'll make a nice rest from more serious or complex
books. Sort of like eating salad for a day after
indulging in a calorie-laden splurge meal.

Currently reading the first in the Comet Clement series,
"Inner Circle" that's a science fiction series based
on the discovery of a large comet..you guessed it...
headed for Earth. It's been lurking on one of my Kindles
for a long while and since I was stuck waiting for
state inspection and an oil change on my truck at the
service shop, I figured I might as well give it a go.

I'm waiting for three used books to arrive in the mail,
the first "House of Cards" book plus the two Knitting
Mysteries I mentioned above. I have lots of others on
hand to keep me busy while I'm waiting though.

It's turned cold again with below freezing temperatures
coming tonight and more cold tomorrow. Perfect for
cozying up with a book or three and doing some knitting
on an afghan project for variety.

due to lack of space but would probably toss out the
sofa to make more room for books instead

I'm with you on that. As long as you still have a place to read if you lose the couch. Personally, I only read in bed, on my heating pad. But more hours a day than I expected I would be at this age.

But money is still tight this year, so I've not purchased more than a dozen books for the last 2 years. Of course I had to buy Gabaldon's "Virgins" so I could get rid of that expensive hard to hold anthology with creepy stories which is the only way it has been available. And I have pre-ordered her 7 Stones. I also ordered #3 in Ralph McInerny's Father Dowling series, just to read one. #'s 1 and 2 were outrageously priced. And I think I bought one more. Next year I hit 70 years so must take Social Security. I was recently informed what the payment will be, and I will again be able to go out to lunch and buy books. Maybe even redo the floors upstairs after a year.

My To Be Read pile still has over 400 books because I got stuck once I started reading Gabaldon. And now, sigh, draughtlander will last an extra 5 months, so I'll try to fill it with mysteries not another reread of the 10,000 pages before season 3.I have only 3.3 more volumes to finish this time through. I also thought those 400 books would have to last me most of the rest of my life since Title Wave no longer takes books in trade nor will they order them used.

I see I've ratteled on again about Gabaldon. I suppose it is time too confess I am an addict. No cure. Don't want one.
