Just discovered another excellent British series. It's not cosy, and
there are some fairly unpleasant scenes, but there is little overt
violence. Pretty much something for everyone, including you Carol.

The series (of seven so far) is written by Damien Boyd whose
protagonist is an insulin-dependent Detective Inspector Nick Dixon in
the Avon and Somerset force. The nice thing about them is that they
are Kindle cheapies, and the timescale is reasonably compressed - the
entire series basically covers months rather than years, and includes
contemporary real events in Somerset as added background.

I love them and am now hanging out for Book 8.

Ooooo I love Kindle cheapies. They're almost as good as
Kindle freebies and dollar store remainder books.

Speaking of which, I'm currently reading one of my dollar
store finds which is also part of a British-based series,
but this one falls into the cozy category (and would
probably be Carol-friendly overall).

The book is "Dead Heading" by Catherine Aird and the
cover proclaims it as part of the Sloan and Crosby
mystery series. It's set in a small, rural English
county with Sloan and Crosby being detectives on the
local, also small police force.

Two local commercial greenhouses have had overnight
break-ins that resulted in the doors to greenhouses
left open and their tender orchids and other plants
killed during a freeze. In one case, the frost alarm
system has also been disabled pointing to someone
knowledgeable about the workings of the system.

Meanwhile, a local woman is reported as missing by
her neighbor when she fails to return from her holiday
when expected.

Sloan and Crosby are assigned to both cases and soon
find that there are connections between the two cases.

I'm about halfway through it so far, and I'm doing
well with picking out and correctly interpreting the
clues.

Thanks for the information about your find, Mique.
More books for the pile, virtual or otherwise, is
always a good thing.

Nyssa, who also finished the last in the Miss Henry
series so it's good to find out about some new series
that aren't made from cookie cutters
