After spending 4 months in the hospital and nursing home this Spring
(Osteomyelitis of the spine -- horrible), I finally managed to escape
and get back home to my books and computer.

And I'm subscribed to several e-mail lists -- that daily list of books
that are free or reduced price for a limited time for my Amazon Kindle.
BookBub/Early Bird Books/OHFB (One Hundred Free Books)

This has resulted in my finding new-to-me authors and seeing if my
marvelous library system has more books by them. At least 50% of the
time they do!

So I keep busy filling request forms and sending my eldest son to the
closest branch to pick the books up for me when I get notified that they
have arrived. (I'm nowhere near able to be allowed to drive yet.)

These books are not the latest best sellers by any means, but some are
quite a bit newer than others.

The author that I'm finally get around to bragging about is Steven
Havill. He's written more than 20 books (mysteries, of course) starting
in 1991, featuring the undersheriff of Posadas County, New Mexico and
the other deputies and townspeople of the small town just 20 miles North
of the Mexican border. And he's still writing them.

I'm a very character-driven reader and from the first book that I read
(in the middle of the series, no less) I was caught up in the stories
and the lives these folks. I even had to pay money for the first
several titles because they weren't in the library holdings any more.

I will now sneak back to my lurker mode.

Hi 'wyrm. Great to see you again. You're preaching to the choir about
Steven Havill. I have all his books to date and hang out desparately
for his every new release.

Ben Rehder's Blanco County series is also great, as are Terry Shames's
books set in Texas.

Kay Barrett made my year a week or so ago in Facebook RAM by putting
us onto an Irish author Caimh McDonnell (pronounced Qveeve, he tells
me). He is the author of a very funny series set in Dublin. Very
character driven, very good.

Hope you're back on your wheels again soon.

I will echo Mike's comments. Definitely one of my go to authors.

Waiting for the announcement of when his next book is coming out. That
way I can be sure to get it as early as possible.

Just checking for new books and I see that a new Steven F. Havill book
(Easy Errors) will be out on Nov. 7. That's less than a month. Hooray.

I like Steven Hamill, too. I have read probably a half dozen of his books, but not for a
while. He is on my lengthy author list which I use about once a month to see what is
up in future publishing dates.

A great source for what is new, is the website,"stopyourekillingme.com". Yes, it looks
weird but gives me a month-by-month list of who has new books coming up.
